Overall, guests appreciate the friendly staff and convenient location near Mercer University. However, recent reviews highlight significant concerns regarding cleanliness, outdated facilities, and disruptive construction, alongside issues with service and unresponsive management. While some experiences were positive, there’s a clear need for improved maintenance and transparency regarding ongoing renovations.

I really wanted to give this hotel a 5++ Star rating...My stay at the Hilton Garden Inn Macon / Mercer University was very pleasant from the moment I walked in, to my departure.. well… almost. The front desk staff - “Wonderful!” The kitchen staff - “Wonderful!” Everyone I crossed paths (even maintenance) were friendly. I slept well. Peaceful and comfortable. The room was clean, and the linen smelled fresh. HOWEVER, I mistakenly left a silver beverage bottle, that was not an ordinary beverage bottle. It was a quality, temperature regulated silver bottle that was engraved and given to me from the university for which I work. When I realized I had left it in the back of the refrigerator in my sleeping room, I was already over an hour into the 2 hour drive back home. When I called the hotel, I was told that they did not find the bottle. I believe that the lady at the front desk was diligent in getting the answer, but I don’t believe that the person she was in contact with (while I was on hold) was honest. Whomever was on duty to clean the room that morning must have seen it. Or it would have been there when I called. Why someone would want to keep an item that is engraved for someone else is beyond my understanding. It was a favored bottle that had sentimental value and I am saddened by how my stay ended.

Disappointing and Misleading Experience During Ongoing Renovations I am writing this review personally on Google to ensure my husband’s Hilton business account is not impacted, as his company regularly books through Hilton properties. This Hilton Garden Inn location in Macon, Georgia has been under renovation since November 2025, yet at no point during booking—online or otherwise—were we informed that daily construction would be taking place. This lack of disclosure feels extremely misleading, especially given the nightly room rates, which remain upwards of $200 per night. Throughout our three-day stay, we were told at check-in that construction noise would cease after 5:00 PM. That has not been the case. Construction begins early each morning and continues well into the evening. February 16 was the final straw. When my husband and I went to the restaurant and bar area for dinner, we were met with active power tools, dust, loud commotion, and contractors working directly in the kitchen, bar, and pantry areas—until nearly 10:00 PM—while paying guests were dining. At one point: • Some of the younger contractors were “testing” new kitchen equipment, filming social media videos, and playing around with the equipment. • The bar area had been clearly blocked off with caution tape due to construction, but that was removed by the contractors so they could sit at the unfinished bar to eat and drink. • These contractors were loud, disruptive, and drinking beer while guests were actively being served. • They appeared to still be on the clock, as they repeatedly got up mid-meal to return to active work areas. • Paying guests were treated as though we were in their way, rather than being given basic courtesy. If this had occurred before dining hours or in a closed area, it would be one thing—but this was during active restaurant service, with guests attempting to enjoy a peaceful meal. When guests (myself included) asked the contractors when work would be done for the evening, we were ignored. To be clear—and this is important—it felt very much like the Hilton Garden Inn workers themselves were set up for failure by hotel management. There was little to no oversight, no clear boundaries between guest spaces and construction zones, and no apparent enforcement of appropriate behavior during guest-facing hours. Additionally: • The front desk staff have been consistently kind and professional. • Stacy, the bartender, was exceptionally courteous and accommodating despite the circumstances. • The kitchen staff were polite and apologetic, clearly doing their best in an uncomfortable and disruptive environment. The core issue here is management and contractor oversight, particularly during evening hours. It is unacceptable to continue charging full rates while failing to disclose ongoing renovations that directly impact guest comfort, dining experiences, and overall expectations. This experience felt like a bait-and-switch, and it has been ongoing since November. Transparency matters—especially at this price point. Shame on this location for continuing to operate this way without proper disclosure or control.

Genuine, friendly and professional staff. Shannon, Stacy, and the Chef were very accommodating. Even though it is clearly under construction, the room was clean and comfortable. The salad I ordered for dinner from the restaurant was delicious!!! Stacy, the server, was eager to help me with my order and it was quick! Thank you for the great customer service, it was a pleasant experience for a simple overnight stay!

This is an excellent little hotel. Very clean and comfortable and the staff are very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. There is tons of parking and plenty of green space to take a walk and for pets to play. They have garbage cans for pet waste outside which is very convenient and sanitary. The little restaurant is actually quite good. The service was great and our food was quite tasty. The prices were good as well. The location is literally right next to Mercer University. Five Stars from me!

Ms. Vanessa Jackson-Lloyd I would like to share my concerns about this Hilton at Mercer. I checked out of your facility one week ago 1/1/2026. This facility should not be allowed to put the name "Hilton" on this establishment, because the rooms are far below standard of a true Hilton property. The hotel is very old and to your credit they are renovating; However the bed rooms are dark and dirty. The water would not drain in the sink or the tub and worse the water was would not get hot, not matter how long you allowed it to run. The water is luke warm and again it does not drain out of the sink or the tub. The television was not working and despite two attempts from their maintenance person to repair it (after calling the front desk multiple times), I never received a connection to watch television. Despite the bad service the staff was nice but I was disappointed that they did not offer to adjust my price. I paid more than $200 for one night to stay in a hotel that did not meet the standards of a Motel 6. I will never stay in this hotel again; Unfortunately, this is the town with the Rhythm and Ralley Pickleball sports facility, that hosts major Pickleball tournaments, so I am forced to visit the area multiple times again this year, but I will be staying somewhere different. This is honestly my first time really thinking that maybe the days when "Hilton" meant luxury are long past.

There was algae in the coffee maker. There were no towels in the bathroom. We had to call somebody to get the TV fixed We asked for a pool side view, but we got a view of the parking lot

They were in the process of updating the rooms as they are very aged, and the furniture needs to be replaced but the staff there were so friendly and so kind and helpful which deserved 5 stars as well as the location.

Horrible experience. Rooms are adequate but outdated and dirty. No hot water in the shower. Front desk made a mistake with the billing and Beatrice was incredibly rude. I rarely write reviews, but the level of service and experience was severely lacking. Avoid this hotel at all cost.

No complaints about the front desk personnel. Mr. Brown was professional and apologetic about the construction and mold in the room. The room appeared to be clean. I ended up getting sick

HORRIBLE experience after paying almost $200 for one night. The room is old, the AC is directly in you from the old fashioned noisy unit, the bed is hard like what most people describe a prison bed to be and to add icing to the cake, I wake up with multiple bug bites on my arm! It’s red, itchy and painful and I immediately go downstairs to show the host. She takes down my info and stated that she would let management know. It took days for the welts and pain to go away. I spoke with a guy manager and I gave him every opportunity to make things right before this review and He just played in my face. After going back and forth for over a month I was eventually told that all they could do is give me a some Hilton points, 10K which is not even enough to cover even a FOURTH of a nights stay these days and no apology for my pain and suffering. I told him that I’ve gotten double those points for a dirty bathroom! He flatly stated that that was the best he could do. As a loyal Diamond member for over TEN YEARS, this is my first ever one star review and that should tell you something. Save your skin and remain pain free by booking elsewhere.
